  • What is SRJC Connect? SRJC Connect, a summer bridge pilot, is being offered for 8 weeks from June 16 through August 7 (summer semester) to address multiple aspects of college preparation. In addition to offering critical courses such as transfer-level English and EMLS, Stress Management, and Study Skills, workshops to enhance critical skills needed for success in both non-STEM and STEM pathway transfer-level math courses will be held daily.
     
  • What is the purpose of the program? SRJC Connect strives to help community college students develop the skills necessary to pass transfer-level math and English courses in response to the implementation of AB1705 (click here for more information). Students enrolled in Connect will have access to valuable resources, such as tutoring, instructional aides, math workshops, mental health support, and lunch.
     
  • What can students participate in? Participants will choose the courses and workshop activities of SRJC Connect that best serve them. They do NOT need to participate in the whole program. Individuals can participate in any number of the courses and workshops.
     
  • Is lunch provided? Please note that to be eligible for the free lunch, the student must attend the math workshops. Regular attendance is expected if one does opt to participate. Supplies, food, and resources will be ordered accordingly. 
     
  • What are the dates for the program? The program will start on Monday, June 16th, 2025 and conclude on Thursday, August 7th, 2025. Activities will be hosted from 9:00am until 4:00pm Monday through Thursday for students to choose from. 
     
  • What is the cost of attendance? The program is Low-Cost to No-Cost, depending on the units the student will register for and approval of financial aid (Check out Financial Aid Resources for information on how to attend this program at No-Cost).
     

The courses and workshops that make up SRJC Connect follow:

  • Stress Management Course (DRD 352, 1 unit) 
    • Monday & Wednesday 9 am – 9:50 am 
    • This course will explore principles and techniques of stress management. At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Integrate stress management techniques into daily life. 2. Describe the relationship between stress and disability management. 
  • Study Skills Course (COUN 60, 1 unit) 
    • Tuesday & Thursday 9 am – 9:50 am 
    • This course is designed to assist students in improving their study skills. Topics include goal identification, organizing study habits, how to read and study textbooks, take effective notes, how to prepare for and take examinations, and the efficient use of the library. Course covers the total development of the individual and attitudes toward academic and personal problem solving. 
  • College Composition (ENGL 1A, 4 units) 
    • Monday – Thursday 10:15 am-12:45 pm 
    • This is an introductory course that offers instruction in expository and argumentative writing, appropriate and effective use of language, close reading, cogent thinking, research strategies, information literacy, and documentation. The course emphasizes critical reading and discussion of primarily non-fiction, college-level texts with emphasis on expository and argumentative prose 
  • Statistics OR Pre-Calculus Math Workshops (free, no units) 
    • Monday – Thursday 12:45-2:45 pm 
    • There will be two different workshops offered: One faculty member will develop and teach a workshop to enhance critical skills needed to be successful for Math 15, Statistics (non-STEM pathway) while the other will develop and teach workshops to enhance critical skills needed to be successful in Math 25 or Math 58 (Precalculus or Precalculus Trigonometry) as part of the STEM pathway. 
    • ** includes 30 minutes for Free Lunch before session begins 
  • SRJC Programs Workshops, Retention Support, and Tutoring (free, no units) 
    • Monday – Thursday 3-4 pm 
    • Every afternoon, there will be either a workshop, tutoring from English and Math instructional aides, and/or one-to-one meetings with student support team members from Avanzando and MESA to support retention and accessing resources.
